The Difference Between Yearbook and Senior Photos

Wondering what the difference is between yearbook and senior photos? You’ve come to the right place. There are key distinctions between the two. Understanding them will help you be fully prepared for your senior year.

Choosing a Yearbook Photo

Traditionally, yearbook photos were taken by a large portrait company at school. Think of a typical “School Picture Day” with strict requirements. Some schools required seniors to wear similar outfits, with the guys in tuxes and the girls in black dresses. These portraits were formal. Just look at the senior portrait from my high school years!

Times are changing, and many schools let seniors have more freedom for their yearbook photos. But the rules will depend on the school you attend. You may be required to choose a specific company, background, or outfit for your senior yearbook photo. Senior portraits, on the other hand, are much more personalized.

The AHP Experience

A senior portrait session is an experience. Rather than focusing on taking uniform photos for the entire senior class for the yearbook, I get to cater each session to the individual senior. This means that each AHP portrait session is a VIP experience – one that often lasts five or more hours! We include professional hair and makeup, access to the AHP Style Closet for wardrobe changes, and more.

Not only does this give you an AH-mazing gallery of portraits, but it is also a fun memory to look back on. Your senior portraits are something to cherish. This is likely the only time you will have professional portraits done until your wedding day (or next big life event)!

Your high school may allow you to use whatever portrait you like, rather than having strict requirements for your yearbook photo. If that is the case, I can help you pick out the perfect portrait from your gallery when we view it together!
