Cap and Gown Senior Portraits | Amanda Howse Photography

Cap and Gown Senior Portraits

While this should have been an exciting time for the class of 2020 as they prepare for graduation, this year things are different. We are in uncharted territory and doing our best to adapt! Even without a formal graduation ceremony, your cap and gown represent the four years of hard work, friendships, and experiences you had in high school.

I offer cap and gown senior portraits to make sure this moment in time is captured. These sessions are a special way to remember your high school experience.

Studio and Outdoor Senior Portraits

I will be dedicating the entire month of June to the Class of 2020 for cap and gown senior portraits. The weather will be warm, the sun will be shining, and hopefully, we can do mini-portrait sessions in the studio or outdoors. My studio has gorgeous windows that allow in a ton of natural light. I also decorate with balloons to make it feel like a celebration! I want to give seniors something to look forward to in uncertain times.

As soon as I am able to, I will offer cap and gown senior portraits. You can pre-book your session here. And make sure you are following along on Instagram and checking my stories for updates.

Hair & Makeup

This is the perfect time to catch up on YouTube makeup and hair tutorials. You can experiment with different looks at home and figure out what works best for you! Check Pinterest for inspiration and keep in mind that you want your hairstyle to work with your cap. Wearing your hair down is best but try curling it and straightening it to see which look you prefer. Experiment with different products to get the right amount of shine, texture, and hold to your hair. Your makeup can be natural or bold, or somewhere in between. There are so many fun ways to use your favorite eye shadow palettes, blush, and bronzer.

Your parents will want to have your cap and gown portraits printed and framed so they can show them off. Looking your best for senior portraits is important!

Bring Your Bestie

What would your senior year be without your best friends? Bring them along to your cap and gown senior portrait session. I love seeing friends support and encourage each other throughout their portrait sessions. It keeps everyone smiling and laughing. Plus you’ll have some professional portraits with your bestie to treasure forever!

Prepping Your Gown

You’ll receive your gown and sash folded up. Those crease lines are noticeable, but I have a few tips to make sure your gown is portrait-ready! It might be a good idea to have your mom help in this department. I recommend ironing your gown before portraits. Be careful though, as the fabric could melt. Put a shirt between the iron and the gown to protect it. Then iron over the creases until your gown and sash are smooth and you are ready to go.

Customize Your Cap and Gown

Some seniors choose to customize their cap and gown. Decorating your cap with sequins or a positive message can help lift your spirits in this crazy time. Other ways to customize your graduation look include choosing fun shoes and accessories. Most girls wear dresses under their gowns, but you can also pick out a fun jumpsuit or romper to show your style. We have a changing tent so you can swap outfits easily!

I also recommend wearing spirit wear from the college you will be attending in the fall. We can snap a few portraits that celebrate the bright future you have ahead. You can also bring a flag, sports gear, or other props that represent your interests and future plans.
