It is so important to me that my seniors feel confident and beautiful for their portraits! There are a few things that I have learned help with that, and I am so excited to share them with you. Not only are these great tips for seniors getting ready for their portrait session, they are tips that work for anyone preparing for a photo shoot!
Five Things to Prep For on Your Senior Session Day
Taking care of yourself is so important. When you are rested and relaxed, you will feel so much better about being in front of a camera! Here are five things you should prep for on your senior session day:
1. Your Personal Well-Being
It is essential to be well-rested and hydrated on the day of your senior portraits (and every day)!! Drink a lot of water the week before to help your skin feel hydrated. Limit snacks and sugar to avoid that icky bloated and tired feeling that comes from too many sweets. But be sure to eat before your session!! You don’t want to come to your session hungry (or hangry, lol) so make sure to have a healthy meal beforehand. And bring snacks that will keep your energy up! Senior portraits are an adventure, exploring different spots for the perfect light and a variety of backgrounds! Just make sure your snacks aren’t chocolate or anything that could stain your cute outfits!
2. Your Wardrobe
Speaking of cute outfits, be sure to prep your wardrobe for your session! Once you have selected your outfits, try them on at home with undergarments to see how everything looks together. You don’t want your bra straps (or anything else) showing in your portraits! If you aren’t sure what to wear, we have you covered!! Amanda Howse Photography offers a fashion consultation with your session and access to the AHP Style Closet at Studio 253!
3. Grooming
I love working with you on cute poses for natural senior portraits! You would be surprised how much your hands show in your senior portraits, so be sure to make sure you have your nails done!! You can paint them yourself or go get a professional mani & pedi! This is a great opportunity to have a little spa date and bonding time with your mom. (We can even sneak her into a few of the photos!) If you don’t want to have your nails painted before your portraits, at least be sure to remove any old polish for a clean look!
Also make sure your eyebrows are groomed and everything you want to be shaved is shaved! Our professional hair and makeup artists always do fake eyelashes with every pro hair and makeup session! It adds to the glam factor!
4. Professional Hair & Makeup
Yes! We offer professional hair and makeup for your senior portrait session!! One of our three on-staff hair and makeup artists will help you look and feel your best. I mean, who doesn’t want to get pampered for two hours before your shoot? It’s not only a relaxing start to your senior session day, it also boosts your confidence!
