Project Beauty 2022

While all our AHP Model Team shoots are designed to showcase the innate beauty present in each of our senior girls, Project Beauty 2022 is special. For this shoot, we asked the girls to be truly vulnerable in front of the camera by forgoing our usual “camera-ready” routine. Including trends, jewelry, and even nail polish that could distract from the main focus: them! Project Beauty was created by Thomas Nyguen in 2017. He has led the senior photography movement to redefine true beauty for high school girls by emphasizing their natural beauty in place of the curated images they are so used to seeing. We are happy to have been taking part in this campaign for 4 years!! I cannot wait to see how much fun the next group of girls has too!

Beauty Without The Filters

Between make-up, media filters, strategic poses, and photoshopping, unrealistic views of beauty are all too present in the daily lives of high schoolers. Image after image portraying impossible standards. Make-up is SO fun, and we use it all the time in our AHP Model Team shoots to accentuate the natural beauty of our girls. However, our goal is that these girls leave high school feeling happy and confident in the skin they are in. Make-up or not. That is one reason why I love our #ProjectBeauty photoshoot. I want the girls to see how beautiful they are just as they are! Or as Model Team member Trinity said, “Your personality over anything else.” I could not agree with her more!

Naturally You

Our senior girls were extremely brave to go in front of the camera in a state they aren’t used to. Even if they are someone who is used to going mostly make-up free in their day-to-day life, it is never the case when they come to the studio to be pictured. At the beginning of the day, I could tell the girls were a little nervous about how this shoot would go! Naturally! But by the end, they grew even more comfortable with each other. More importantly, they had grown more comfortable with themselves.  It is amazing what just a couple of hours of embracing their perfect imperfections can do! “I’m so happy to have this experience and will cherish these photos forever.” Hannah, 2022 Model Team.  

What Does Beauty Mean to You?

Part of our Project Beauty campaign is unpacking what beauty means to each person. It can be hard to define! In a world that readily defines what beauty is to young girls, it is powerful to be able to state openly and boldly what YOUR definition is. After their Project Beauty experience, Nyguen wants these girls to, “ have the strength and courage to tell their story and to serve as an ambassador and a voice to those who have none.” You can read what our girls had to say in their handwritten notes accompanying each of their photos.
