What Season is Best for Senior Portraits?
Wondering what season is best for senior portraits? You have come to the right place! There are benefits and drawbacks to every season for senior portrait sessions, so there are a few things to consider when you are deciding when to schedule your session.
Scroll through to see senior portrait inspiration from each season, and helpful tips for scheduling your session.
Summer Senior Portraits
The summer after your junior year is when you are officially considered a senior! The last class has graduated, and it is your turn to shine. Scheduling summer senior portraits means you can check them off the list before the school year even begins. This is ideal for seniors with busy school schedules, extracurriculars, and other commitments.
There are so many reasons to book a summer session. We’ll have yummy summer light, warm weather, and blue skies for your portraits. You can wear summer dresses, tank tops, cute rompers, and sandals. And there are plenty of flowers in bloom, especially if we take your portraits in the rose garden at Point Defiance. The tall fields of dry grass in Washington are the perfect setting for rustic summer portraits. If you book a Le Diva session in the summer, we have the option of renting Wild Hearts Farm and other private photo venues for ah-mazing outdoor portraits.
Summer can mean harsh sun and backlighting, though. I can shoot in any weather and lighting conditions, but this is something to keep in mind.
Fall Senior Portraits
Once summer ends, your senior year begins! This means full and busy days, crisp weather, and changing colors outside. Fall is my favorite season. I simply love the fall leaves on the ground, cozy outfits, and boots. It’s officially sweater weather in the PNW, and we can capture some cute and cozy fall portraits. If you love orange, red, and golden yellow hues, then fall may be the best season for your senior portraits.
Fall weather in the PNW can be somewhat unpredictable, as the days get cooler and the rainy weather sets in. But my seniors and I have so much fun during fall portrait sessions! We have great days with cloudy skies, and we can always capture your portraits in between spurts of rain.
Winter Senior Portraits
You may not think winter could be the best season for senior portraits, but it can be perfect! It is a little cold in Washington, but we can get some awesome portraits if it snows. I love playing in the snow with seniors and capturing winter wonderland portraits. The days are shorter in winter, so we get early sunsets and some great winter light. It may seem overcast and grey, but this even light is perfect for outdoor portraits.
And if it’s just too cold or wet, we can take your senior portraits inside at Studio 253. My ah-mazing studio has tons of natural light and an awesome atmosphere for senior portraits.
Spring Senior Portraits
Spring in the PNW is ah-mazing! All the wildflowers are blooming, the cherry trees begin to blossom, and the weather starts to warm up. You can throw on a cute spring dress and denim jacket, and it may get nice enough outside for sandals. We can do indoor and outdoor sessions, giving you plenty of variety for your senior portraits.
Just keep in mind that spring will be busy during your senior year. You’ll have spring break and prom, with graduation right around the corner. Consider your schedule and extracurriculars before booking a spring senior portrait session.
How Far in Advance to Book Your Session
My schedule books up fast, so don’t wait until your preferred season to reach out. My books will open in the spring for the Class of 2022. If you want a coveted summer date, mark your calendar and reach out early!
It is so important to plan ahead. If you want to use your senior portraits for graduation announcements or party invitations, you will want to give yourself plenty of time to get your photos done. Every senior gets a sneak peek of their portraits within 24 hours of their session, and the full edited gallery will be ready for you about two weeks after your session. Any products we order take about four weeks for delivery.
Keep in mind that the AHP Model Team gets early access to my calendar for their preferred dates. I will begin accepting applications for the AHP Model Team in November. Follow me on Instagram so you don’t miss any updates.
