Outdoor Tacoma Senior Portraits with a Studio Add-On
We pulled out all the stops for Abbey’s outdoor Tacoma senior portraits with a studio session add-on! I love being a Tacoma senior photographer for so many reasons. Meeting the seniors and helping them celebrate their senior year is so ah-mazing. I also love this city. I have a gorgeous studio downtown, which is steps away from Wright Park and the waterfront. It makes it easy to take some indoor studio portraits before exploring the city, which is what we did for Miss Abbey’s “Le Diva” session last year.
Natural Light
My studio has a wall of windows that let a ton of gorgeous natural light in. Abbey wore a cozy sweater, jeans, and white sneakers for her studio portraits. The neutral tones of her outfit looked perfect in the studio light. Such a classic look! I love how timeless these indoor senior portraits will be for Abbey. She can look back on them for years to come.
Professional HMUA Kara kept Abbey’s makeup natural and light too, highlighting her gorgeous features. I just love the light pink tones with Abbey’s dark hair and classic outfit choices. Once we finished up at the studio, we headed to Wright Park for some photos in the sun.
Wright Park Spring Senior Photos
Wright Park is absolutely stunning in April. There is so much greenery to enjoy and the cherry blossoms are in full bloom. I am missing shooting all the spring flowers this year, but I am so excited to feature this gorgeous 2019 session.
The sun was shining, and we were so grateful for the warm weather. Abbey swapped out her cozy sweater for a fun striped crop top. This look still worked with her classic jeans and white sneakers. We captured a few fun portraits with the blooming flowers and by the white gazebo.
Keeping in line with the spring theme, Abbey brought along a couple of floral print outfits too. There are two things I always bring to an outdoor session: my trusty wagon and a pop-up changing tent. It is so much fun to accessorize and switch up your look throughout the session. Kara came along for the session to change Abbey’s lip color and hair for her outfit changes. Adding a stylist on to your senior portrait session keeps you looking your best, and allows for variety!
Tacoma Grunge
Seattle and Tacoma are known for their ‘90s grunge, and Abbey did not want to miss an opportunity to capture that in her urban senior portraits. Before heading to Fort Steilacoom, we stopped at one of my favorite downtown spots for some portraits in the city. This spot called for ripped jeans and a bold red top. Abbey had so much fun putting together the best outfits for her senior portraits.
Fort Steilacoom Senior Portraits
The last stop on Abbey’s senior portrait extravaganza was Fort Steilacoom. Abbey wanted senior portraits in the tall grass fields, and Ft. Stilly did not disappoint. The grass is green there in the spring, so if you want tall, dry grass for your senior portraits be sure to book a late summer session instead! In July and August it has a rustic, tan-colored look. The fun part of Fort Steilacoom is how much open space there is for rustic senior portraits, but also how different it looks depending on the season.
We brought along a cozy picnic blanket that worked so well with Abbey’s floral sundress and the spring weather. She could cozy up with the blanket and sit on the grass for a few casual spring portraits. And to keep the sun out of her eyes, Abbey put on the cutest floppy hat from the selection I keep on hand.
