What to Wear Guide For Seniors | Amanda Howse Photography

What to Wear Guide For Seniors

Welcome to the 2022 AHP blog post on our What to Wear Guide For Seniors! At AHP, we want to make sure that your wardrobe for your senior pictures accurately represents you! Other than your AH-mazing personality (which you’ve already got covered) this is what will help represent you in your pictures. But how exactly do you do that? Don’t worry, that’s why we’ve developed the AHP senior experience and style guides to ensure your senior session is foolproof and stress-free! Let’s walk you through it!

Your Style Session

When you first book your session, we will ask you some of your style inspirations and fav fits or items of clothing in your wardrobe that you have right now. We will also ask you to start thinking of ideas for items that are important to you and how you want to be represented in your pictures. Take a look at our style guides for individual looks from past seniors to help get the ideas flowing! While these may seem like big questions, knowing the answers will make a huge difference in taking your photos up another level!

Complementary Fashion Consult

There is hardly anything more stressful than finding a perfect outfit for an important occasion. Now imagine needing 3 to 4 different ones?!  Don’t worry. Each AHP senior gets a free fashion consult where we schedule a time to go over your outfits and plan each one entirely, from color scheme to shoes and accessories. Even your different photoshoot locations. Going from Boho Beach Babe at Pt. Defiance, to Wild and Western at Ft. Stilly, can take a bit of planning! But we’ve got you covered!

Before your session, you are free to pick out whatever items you want to match your cute fits for your important day! We’ve got necklaces, jeans, belts, hats, you name it, we’ve probably got it! And of course, we update our wardrobe every season to keep the latest fashion for you in mind. Whether you love the casual and comfy vibes, are into urban streetwear, or maybe even fierce fashion, the AHP Closet is stocked full. We can’t wait for you to take a peek inside! Before you go, I’ll leave you with three of my top style tips and tricks that will make planning a whole lot easier!

WTW Tips and Tricks

  1. Let’s start with the most important: nude undergarments! Yes, you may be thinking, Amanda, what I wear under my clothes doesn’t matter, no one will see them! And you are absolutely right! That is exactly why it is so important. We do not want anyone to see them! Nothing is worse than having a perfect shot and it being overshadowed by a bright pair of blue undies or a pink bra strap. While they may be your fav, leave them at home for another day! Trust me, it matters!
  2. Dress for your skin tone! Understanding if you have warm, cool, or neutral skin tones is an essential part of deciding what to wear. Dressing for your skin tone will make sure every outfit you wear looks great against your skin. But how do you know what skin tone you have? Click here to see our WTW Guide which gives an in-depth overview of how to tell (plus SO many more important WTW tips)! If you have warm skin tones, try outfits with orange, red, and gold hues. If you have cool undertones, try wearing blue, purple, or blush colors. Neutral skin tones often look great in white, navy, and grey outfits. But these are just general guidelines! Try out different colors to see what you look and feel best in.
  3. Our final tip: BE YOU! While it may be fun to try out new styles and accessories, your senior picture might not be the right time. Your senior pictures should be an accurate reflection of you and your style, so we want you to be comfortable in the clothes you pick! It will make the session a lot more fun and smooth! Another thing to remember: these pictures will be around for a long time. While it may be on trend now, try and think how it will age in 10-20 years when you look back and reminiscence on your senior year. So think classic, with a touch of trendy, and you will be good to go! Girl, you’ve got this!
