Adventurous Tacoma Senior Portrait Session
Kami was feeling adventurous for her Tacoma senior portrait session and it was so much fun! This cute senior session was in the prime time of August. One of the perks of being one of only 20 girls on my AHP model team is that you get VIP access to my schedule and first dibs on summer portrait session dates.
A Family Tradition
This girl is from an awesome family. I have been lucky enough to photograph two of her older sisters on the AHP model team and I did her one of her older sister’s engagement photos & photobooth at her wedding. Her sister Madi basically started my senior portrait business and I am so grateful that this family has trusted me to capture so many exciting moments in their lives. They have the best single mom who works so hard for their family.
And they have a house full of awesome animals, and you know I love animals! Kami brought her puppy Max to her session, and I loved getting a few portraits with the two of them. Max was not a fan of all the people and the waiting around though and chewed through his leash during the session, LOL!
And as if Kami’s family wasn’t awesome enough… Kami brought her grandpa’s green Mustang for some photos! I love the vintage vibes and how personalized Kami’s portraits were.
Finding the Light
Kami had her hair and makeup done by the talented Kara at my studio in Tacoma. I love having a glam hair and makeup room for my seniors to be pampered before their session! Once she was all glammed up, we started the session by roaming around the streets outside Studio 253 in Opera Alley by the new McMenamins. We found some great spots in hidden parking lots. Yes – parking lots can be the perfect spot for outdoor senior portraits!
It is all about the light in photos. Light comes first, then the subject, and then the outfit and pose. Without good light, you can’t make a good photo! I am so glad Kami chased the light with me. We headed across the 11th Street bridge for some awesome views of Tacoma in the background. We needed a place with a good vantage spot for bridge photos with the car and boy did this do great! Look at that light and bokeh! You might hear me throw the term bokeh around during your session – that’s a good thing!! Bokeh is the light that is out of the focus of my lens, which gives a blurry feel to the background and makes the photos so dreamy! And all of the sun flares in these gorgeous photos are SOOC (straight out of camera)! None were added in.
The Best Summer Style
This gymnast knows how to bring it! Kami wore a cute white summer dress and I love the heels she paired with it!! Her personality and passion shined through the whole day.
I found a rust-colored wall while scouting locations in Tacoma, and it’s one of my fav spots! While we may have started the day in downtown Tacoma, we had to venture to Point Defiance for a pop of color from the flowers in the garden and then Owen Beach for a few shots by the water. We brought the changing tent along so she could do quick changes on-location. She threw on the white dress again to go in the water, but the awesome white hat she wore from the AHP Style Closet was never seen again… We were so sad when we realized it either jumped off at some point or was taken from the wagon!
A Talented Gymnast
Kami put her gymnastic skills to use for some awesome poses on the beach! Kami decided (against her mom’s wishes LOL) to jump on an old rotted board on the water and walk the beam! It made for some great photos that I LOVE! And I love how she does her famous dancer’s pose, bringing her foot to the back of her head! 🙌 🙌 🙌 She did it in multiple locations for our session – and has even been known to do it in front of the castle at Disneyland! You can tell she works out hours a day doing gymnastics, cheer, and acrobatics.
This boss babe has a big future ahead of her. She is planning to attend Azusa on a full freshman athletic scholarship and is going to study kinesiology! I can’t wait to see all she accomplishes and I am so grateful that she chose me to capture her senior year.
Be Yourself
Don’t be afraid to be yourself at your senior portrait session! Try jumping out of your comfort zone for some awesome photos (pun intended!) The more movement you have in them, the better they look. Trust your photographer, that’s why you hired them. I love helping my seniors feel confident and excited about their senior portraits!
