How to Accessorize for Senior Portraits
If you are wondering how to accessorize for senior portraits, you’ve come to the right place. I love helping seniors choose outfits and accessories that show off their unique style! The best accessories for senior portraits are ones that take your outfit up a notch and make you feel an extra boost of confidence.
Staying On-Trend
I love seeing the latest trends every year, and this year felt like a throwback to the 1990s! The girls are wearing scrunchies, thick headbands, white sneakers, and cowboy hats. Sunglasses are also a good choice for summer sessions and I just love aviators. Adding a bold accessory or two gives your outfit an on-trend look.
Jewelry is another fun way to accessorize. Colorful bracelets can kick your outfit up a notch, and don’t be afraid to stack them! Some of my favorite bracelets are made by Pura Vida, Ocean, and Alex & Ani. They are all so cute and can be mixed and matched for a unique look.
Styling Your Hair
Your hair is part of your outfit! There are so many different ways to style your hair for senior portraits, and I have an AH-mazing staff of professional hair and makeup artists to make sure you look your best. You even have the option of bringing your stylist along to your session. This means we can change up your hairstyle with each outfit. From top knots to side braids, there are endless options. If you wear your hair down, either in loose curls or straight, you can throw on a hat for some of your portraits. A cowboy hat can make you feel like a country music star in an instant.
A Fresh Manicure
Keep in mind that most poses show your hands. It’s so much fun when my seniors show up with a fresh set of “claws”. This is a great way to amplify your look. You can match your nails to your outfit choices, go for something bold, or opt for a natural look.
One way I love to show off your manicure is by having you hold a bouquet of flowers! There are so many gorgeous blooms in Tacoma, and a field of wildflowers is the perfect backdrop for senior portraits. Don’t be surprised if I have you pick a few flowers to hold for your portraits.
A Layered Outfit
Styling an outfit in the PNW is all about layers. Not only does this ensure you’re covered if the skies switch from sunny to overcast, but it also gives you the option of mixing up your look without changing your entire outfit. My favorite layer? A classic jean jacket. You can wear one with just about anything! Throw a jean jacket on over a flowy summer dress or jumpsuit and you’re ready to go.
In addition to layering a jacket over your outfit, you can also layer jewelry. Choosing necklaces of different lengths is a fun way to show off your style. Delicate gold chokers and long necklaces are both in style right now, so why not wear them together? I love when my seniors choose jewelry that has meaning to them, so keep an eye out for jewelry with your birth flower, zodiac sign, or initials! You can also borrow from your besties, your mom, or the AHP Style Closet.
The AHP Style Closet
When I say I love helping seniors stay on-trend and accessorize, I mean it. I keep the AHP Style Closet at Studio 253 fully stocked with jewelry, hats, shoes, jackets, and more. As part of your AHP senior session, you get access to the Style Closet to boost your wardrobe.
Borrowing from the Style Closet means you don’t have to go out and buy all new outfits just for your senior session. You can try out different looks without spending a fortune.
