Hey there, I’m Amanda! As a senior photographer in Tacoma, I love meeting my seniors and getting to know them for their portrait sessions. So I thought I would take a minute to introduce myself!
I have lived all over but feel lucky to call Washington my home now! I grew up around California (Santa Barbara, Lake Tahoe, and Roseville!) before moving to the Big Island of Hawaii with my family in 5th grade. Even though I love shooting senior portrait sessions, I never had senior portraits of my own! I graduated after only 3 years of high school, skipping my senior year and graduating at the top of my class as magna cum laude.
Following my Dreams
I have been a photographer for more than 15 years and it is my passion! I didn’t always know that I wanted to be a photographer, though. When I was younger, I wanted to be a kindergarten teacher after watching “Kindergarten Cop” LOL! I then went to college not really knowing what I wanted to do, but knew I was good at writing, and I had the acting bug… I was pulled in a few different directions! But I took a photography class as an elective while I was in Boston pursuing my acting career and fell in love with photography instead!
After earning my BA from the University of Nevada Reno in English: Creative Writing with a Minor in Photography, I went on to be one of only 50 students chosen to apply and attend per session at the world-renowned Brooks Institute of Photography in Santa Barbara, CA. This was the best private photography school in the country at the time! I proudly earned my second BA in Professional Photography: Portraiture.
Fun Facts
My favorite color is purple, as you may have already guessed! My favorite movies & books are the Harry Potter and Twilight series. They inspired the names for my cats! Ron, Charlie & Fred Weasley (from Harry Potter, and the late George…) and our newest addition: Jasper (from Twilight).
I have three favorite places to vacation: Disneyland, Kauai, and Lake Tahoe! Disneyland is so magical, I love it! Visiting the Kauai condo where I grew up brings back childhood memories and is a beautiful place to relax and reminisce. And Lake Tahoe is the place that feels the most like home – so many childhood memories there, and now adult memories too!
I love fall and winter! Fall is the best: the leaves, colder days, sweaters, hot drinks, scarves, football, being cozy, and Halloween. And the beginning of winter brings the first snow fall, cuddling, roaring fires, and skiing. It is so exciting to see the seasons change.
My wonderful husband and I have been married for almost 13 years, and together for almost 17. For our 10th wedding anniversary, we had a photoshoot with Anicia Beckwith where I got to wear my wedding dress again!
In ten years, I hope I’m still in the same house with my hubby and our four cats, just loving life and shooting high school senior portraits! (And I’ll probably still be eating Hot Tamales while I edit photos!)
High School Senior Photography
My dad always said fear is a blindfold and the most useless thing one can live with because it doesn’t do anything positive for you and stops you from doing anything positive for yourself.
I want my photography to motivate and encourage high school seniors to be themselves and follow their dreams. It means so much to me that I can uplift young women, show them their inner and outer beauty, and give them confidence through my art.
